PRIME NEWS PRESENTERS

Eric Young

Eric Young is an award-winning journalist, who has managed to turn an obsession for news into a career spanning more than a quarter of a century.

His broadcasting career began with Auckland’s radio in the early 1980s, took a seven-year diversion to the Auckland Star’s sports department, before returning with the launch of TV3 in 1989.

He has worked for ESPN, has commentated on and written about sport in dozens of countries, and joined Prime News in 2006, when he decided it was probably time he got a real job.

His hunt for the perfect pinot remains, at this stage, fruitless, but he is determined to continue the search.

Suzy Clarkson

Suzie Clarkson

With a postgraduate qualification in Broadcast Journalism and a BBC Scholarship under her belt, PRIME News is in safe hands with Suzy. Not only does she present the top news and sports stories of the day, she is also has a hand in production behind the scenes. Her top tip for successful reporting is ‘to remember your audience’.

As well as being a journalist, Suzy is also a trained physiotherapist and author. Her book Healthy Body, Healthy Mind gives great advice on how to maintain fitness for both body and mind. ‘If you stick to good healthy principles, 90 percent of the time you'll stay on track. 10 percent of the time cut yourself some slack and allow the odd blowout! That's living life!’ says Suzy.

The highlight of Suzy’s career so far was an interview with the late Peter Jennings for ABC News New York about New Zealand’s Millennium celebrations. The interview was live and not only was she being grilled by one of her news heroes, but it also signalled her move to new international level of exposure.

On a personal level 2007 was a highlight, as she and husband Tim welcomed their first child into the world.

Ross Karl

Ross Karl

Ross may be the new face of PRIME News but he has been with the programme for over a year, behind the scenes as a producer.

Born in the UK, Ross moved to New Zealand when he was six and started playing rugby, crediting his mum for developing his passion for sport.

Ross is a true-blue (or should that be black) All Blacks fan - his favourite All Black being Michael Jones. At weekends he can be found cheering on his favourite teams - Counties Manukau and The Chiefs.

Apart from landing the sports reporter role on PRIME News, Ross’s career highlight has been interviewing Cricket commentator extraordinnaire, Richie Benaud.

At some stage Ross would like to continue his career as a sports journalist, perhaps by going on tour with the country’s top teams.

Away from the world of sport, Ross likes nothing better than a day at Matarangi with his mates.
