PRIME NEWS PRESENTERS

Wayne Hay

Wayne worked in New Zealand media for more than 20 years before leaving to work for Al Jazeera, based in Kuala Lumpur. As Asia correspondent, he travelled the region reporting on everything from natural disasters to general elections. After 4 years based in Malaysia, Wayne moved to Aljazeera’s new bureau in Bangkok where he was able to cover the ongoing political developments there and in neighbouring Myanmar which was opening up after almost 50 years of military rule.

During his time overseas, Wayne covered many major stories including being one of the first international reporters to arrive on the scene of the 2011 Japan earthquake and tsunami and more recently the areas devastated by Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines. He’s also reported from North Korea and Cairo where he hit the headlines after being detained for almost a week by the Egyptian security forces.

Now based back in New Zealand, Wayne is a regular contributor to Prime’s award-winning current affairs show 60 Minutes.
