American Crime Story: The Assassination Of Gianni Versace
About the show
July 15, 1997: Gianni Versace is shot by Andrew Cunanan at the door of Versace's Miami Beach mansion. 1990: An enthusiastic Andrew – who changes identities and opinions depending on who he's talking to – has a connected friend introduce him to Versace at an exclusive San Francisco nightclub, and wrangles a date to an opera costumed by the famed designer. He gets help from a wealthy friend to dress impressively, and afterwards, lies to Versace about his family's history, and gets him to open up about his own life. Chemistry begins to develop between them. 1997: Andrew flees as Versace dies on the operating table and the media descends. The FBI assign Detective Lori Wieder to the case, who, along with Agent Evans, tells the Miami police detectives that this is Cunanan's fifth murder; the FBI have been looking for him for a while. But for some reason, it transpires that the "wanted" flyers were never distributed in Miami. As Versace's sister Donatella and boyfriend Antonio grieve, the detectives dig into Antonio and Versace's private lives. And Donatella, hard-edged, lays down the law with Antonio and takes charge, attempting to preserve her brother's company and legacy – and clearly worried about certain things coming to light. Soon, Detective Wieder learns that Cunanan should have been caught a week ago... so why wasn't he?
